Villasis Tri-Athletes Win Amazing Triathlon Event

LINGAYEN- - - Athletes from Villasis town composed of Jefferson Valdez, Albert Calvero and Robeno Javier reigned supreme as they emerged as champions in the very first Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2008 Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE), ‘Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik with an official time record of 110 minutes and 14 seconds (110:14).

The tri-athletes swam from Bonuan beach to the mouth of Pantal River in Dagupan City, then mounted their bike to raced from Pugaro to the PNP Target Range in Lingayen, and finally sprinted from the PNP Target Range to reach the finish line at the beachfront area at the back of the Urduja House.

Trailing at second slot with a slight difference from the champion teams of just four seconds was the younger team from Bugallon composed of Randy Canto, Ryan del Castillo and Roland Canto with 114 minutes and 4 seconds (114:4) combined official time. Landing on the third spot was the team from Sto. Tomas with Cornelio Carpio, Ali Idos and Antonio Ventura,Jr. as team members at 120 minutes and 12 seconds (120:12) posted time.

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended all the participating athletes for the stamina, endurance, teamwork and spirit of sportsmanship they have shown as this, he said, is the objective of the triathlon which is now one of the highlights of the yearly Pangasinan Pistay Dayat.

Prizes for the three winning teams are P20,000 and trophy for the champions, P15,000 and trophy for the first runner-up and P10,000 plus trophy for the second runner-up.

Consolation prize of P1,000 and certificate of participation were awarded to all non-winners.

There were twelve participating teams coming from the different towns of the province which totaled to 36 athletes in all. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
