Gov. Espino and Gen. Razon lead Pangasinan Pistay Dayat shoot fest

LINGAYEN – Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. and PNP Chief Avelino I. Razon, Jr. will lead the ceremonial shot in the opening day of the PMA Masigasig Class ’72 Governor’s Cup Shootfest on May 2 to 4 at the PNP Firing Range in Lingayen.

An influx of gunshooters from Metro Manila and other provinces are expected to troop to Pangasinan to join local shooters in Governor’s Cup which is one of the highlights of this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2008.

P/Supt. Harris R. Fama, head of secretariat, said that the registration which is open to all interested parties, will be held on May 2 starting 7 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the morning with registration fee of P1,000.

Fama added that the event is a fund raising project of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., where the proceeds will be allocated to the refurbishing of the provincial PNP.

There will be various categories for individual and the open competition such as .45 pistol category, 9 mm category and shotgun category.

Law enforcers coming from the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will have a chance to show their marksmanship in gun shooting during the competitions.

Awarding ceremony is set on May 4, 5 o’clock in the afternoon at the Pangasinan PPO Firing Range.

BUGALLON LASS WINS LIMGAS NA PANGASINAN CROWN

LINGAYEN - If Lindsay Pauline S. Poulakos, the first-ever Limgas Na Pangasinan 2008 title holder, would thumb up to movie-making, she can probably end up with a role from his father’s own film not just because her father is an International independent film producer in New York, but because of her grace and charm.

All of eighteen summers and an incoming B.S. Pharmacy student of the Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Lindsay admits that her greatest passion is modeling. “I want to become a ramp model, in fact, it is my long-time dream since I was young,” she says.

The only daughter in a brood of three of George Poulakos, a Greek-American marketer and part time ‘indi’ film producer, and the former Heidi Sison, a medical assistant in New York, the new shining star chose to finish her college degree in the Philippines before joining her family in the US where she was born and raise.

Adjudged as Miss Chowking and Miss Talent with her scintillating and innovative rendition of the Pangasinense song, ‘Malinac Lay Labi’ by playing the violin, this lovely lady is basically a homebody preferring to read books and play the violin to while away the hours.

Strikingly tall at 5’7” with regal bearing and queenly sculptured face, she undeniably bested the other 19 candidates with her wit in answering with ease the casual interview done by the emcee as gauge for the selection of the final seven and likewise with the final interview tossed by one of the judges.

If she was a garden that night, she could be its centerpiece, the blooming rose which vies in splendor with summer’s day.

The runner-ups in the Limgas na Pangasinan pageant held May 1 at the Capitol grandstand are : Joy Anne N. Cornejo (Lingayen), 1^st runner up and Marilee S. Dela Cruz (San Carlos City), 2^nd runner up.

Unabia (Lingayen), Miss Chowking – Lindsay Pauline Poulakos (Bugallon), Best in Evening Gown – Jarydel V. Prado (Lingayen).

Cash prizes are P80,000 for the Limgas titlist, P50,000 for the 1^st runner-up and P30,000 for the 2^nd runner-up.

The title holder will serve as the ambassadress of goodwill and promote environmental awareness and conservation as well as the various tourist destinations of the province, one of the priority concerns of the provincial government.

Villasis Tri-Athletes Win Amazing Triathlon Event

LINGAYEN- - - Athletes from Villasis town composed of Jefferson Valdez, Albert Calvero and Robeno Javier reigned supreme as they emerged as champions in the very first Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2008 Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE), ‘Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik with an official time record of 110 minutes and 14 seconds (110:14).

The tri-athletes swam from Bonuan beach to the mouth of Pantal River in Dagupan City, then mounted their bike to raced from Pugaro to the PNP Target Range in Lingayen, and finally sprinted from the PNP Target Range to reach the finish line at the beachfront area at the back of the Urduja House.

Trailing at second slot with a slight difference from the champion teams of just four seconds was the younger team from Bugallon composed of Randy Canto, Ryan del Castillo and Roland Canto with 114 minutes and 4 seconds (114:4) combined official time. Landing on the third spot was the team from Sto. Tomas with Cornelio Carpio, Ali Idos and Antonio Ventura,Jr. as team members at 120 minutes and 12 seconds (120:12) posted time.

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended all the participating athletes for the stamina, endurance, teamwork and spirit of sportsmanship they have shown as this, he said, is the objective of the triathlon which is now one of the highlights of the yearly Pangasinan Pistay Dayat.

Prizes for the three winning teams are P20,000 and trophy for the champions, P15,000 and trophy for the first runner-up and P10,000 plus trophy for the second runner-up.

Consolation prize of P1,000 and certificate of participation were awarded to all non-winners.

There were twelve participating teams coming from the different towns of the province which totaled to 36 athletes in all. (Ruby R. Bernardino)

Philippine Madz Singers Wow Pangasinenses

It was an enchanting evening of fine music with The Philippine Madrigal Singers, a multi-awarded and world-class choir taking the center stage during the holding of “Say Dayat tan Musika” held last night in front of the grandiose capitol building.

The 42 year old cultural icon displayed their magnificent and par excellence rendition of a variety of soulful, classic and novelty songs, and proved once more that they deserve the reputation as one of the world’s best choir for all time.

Pangasinenses who luckily got a chance to have a glimpse of the Madrigal performance had nothing but all praises to the group who sang with authenticity, audacity and professionalism while thoroughly entertaining their audience with their zest and innovative performance.

It was believed that only Madrigal Singers can bring together the young and old alike to listen to their music.

The Phil. Madrigal Singers who are called “Madz” in short, has consistently won top prizes in prestigious choral competitions among of which were in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Spain and Germany. It was in June when they earned a name as World’s Best Choir when they bagged the grand prize at the ultimate competition of global champions.

As resident artists of the Cultural Center of the Phillipines (CCP), outreach concerts has brought

them to far-flung areas seldom reached by most performing artists like Pangasinan thus, promoting Philippine music and Filipino artists globally.

Joining the Madrigal Singers in the successful event were the equally multi-awarded and usically talented Calasiao Children’s Choir and the Pangasinan Provincial Chorale.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers together with the Pangasinan Provincial Chorale did a fabulous rendition of the final song entitled “Malinac Lay Labi.”

Tourism Expo Winners

LINGAYEN- - - Special recognitions were given to the best tourism exhibitors and best Pangasinan products being showcased in their year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat’s 1^st Tourism and Trade Expo held from April 25 to May 4 at the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) extension lot at the Capitol compound here.

Dubbed, ‘Aliguas ed Turismo tan Ekonomiya Awards,’ the following are the winners and runner-ups respectively of the ten-day trade exhibits and sale: Punta Riviera Delmar Resort (Bolinao), winner; Dasoland Family Adventure Park (Dasol), runner-up for the Best Tourism Exhibit, Bella’s Puto (Calasiao) and Crafter’s Joy, Best Small Medium Enterprise (SME); Alaminos City and San Carlos City, Best One Town, One Product (OTOP); JE’s Bagoong (Lingayen) and Bella”s Puto (Calasiao), Pasalubong of the Year award (Native Food); Lingayen Handicraft and Provincial Solid Waste Management Office, Pasalubong of the Year award for gifts, toys and handicrafts.

Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan, Tourism Officer and event coordinator, said that there are fifteen participating municipalities showcasing their OTOP products.

“Hopefully, by next year we will be able to invite more participants to come and present their best locally made products,” she added.

Meanwhile, Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. earlier disclosed that efforts are being done by the province to further promote domestic tourism within Pangasinan such as the conduct of this year’s sea festival which was transformed and repackaged into a province-wide celebration.

This first ever tourism expo, the governor cited, is an attempt to push not only tourism but also the local industries of the province thru the concerted efforts of the provincial government and all local government units (LGUs).

Aside from the 15 OTOP LGUs, the list of exhibitors include SME food outlets and carts, SME plants and garden, SME furniture and various booths of resorts and hotels for the tourism destinations.

The awarding ceremonies will be conducted on May 4 as the main culminating activity of the expo. (Ruby R. Bernardino)

Youth and Family Camp

LINGAYEN – The provincial government will stage the Youth Beach Camp from April 29 to May 1 as one of the highlights of this year’s Pistay Dayat celebration to inculcate social-environmental awareness among the Pangasinan youth.

A brainchild of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., the youth camp which will be participated in by Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of the forty-seven (47) different municipalities and cities in the Pangasinan.

During the beach camp, the youth will undergo a leadership training and will be briefed regarding the Pangasinan history thru an audio-visual presentation prepared by the provincial government. Environmental issues will also be discussed to heighten their awareness on the various environmental issues and concerns especially the protection of the Lingayen Gulf.

At night, the youth will enjoy fellowship party in front of a long line of bonfires. Sponsors and the provincial government will provide tents for the participating youth.

Simultaneously, a Family Beach Camp will be held infront of the former Lion’s Den to coincide with the youth camp. Interested participants are required to bring their own tents.

The sites will be secured with amenities like clean toilets and bathrooms, spacious parking area and a food concessionaire within the area.

Pangasinan Pistay Dayat Features Amazing Triathlon Event

Pangasinenses will once again prove their winning forms and passion for sports with the inclusion of Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE) as one of the highlights in this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat celebration.

Pistay Dayat 2008 Executive Chairman Raffy Baraan said that sports has always been welcomed as a recreation or a means of staying active and healthy and oftentimes, a key to a bright future.

Sports buffs will now have a chance to be a part of the triathlon or the Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik which will be held on April 30 at the different designated venues.

The first-ever competition is just one of the many eye-catching events lined-up by the provincial government.

Event Coordinator Modesto M. Operania said, “Triathlon is an endurance sports composed of three events such as swimming, cycling and marathon.”

Participants will first swim from Bonuan Gueset, at the mouth of Pantal river to Pugaro, Dagupan City then mount their bikes from Pugaro up to the back of PNP Target Range and finally run a marathon race from the back of PNP Target Range up to the back of Urduja House Beach Front.

Operania also disclosed that the holding of ATE aims to test the strength and speed of Pangasinan athletes as well as to promote and encourage sports enthusiasts to get involved in this kind of activity.

The Triathlon competition is open to all municipalities with at least one team representative composing of three participants whose age ranges from 20 to 50 years old, a resident of Pangasinan for at least one year and displays sportsmanship attitude.

Competitors are however, not allowed to take alcoholic drinks or strength-enhancing drugs or to accept outside assistance and aids during the race except from race officials and official aid stations provided. Violation of this rule will be a ground for disqualification.

Would-be participants are requested to submit their triathlon notarized applications and duplicate copy of their birth certificate. Registration, briefing and medical check-up are likewise scheduled at the Sison Auditorium day before the holding of Amazing Triathlon event set on the 30^th.

A beach volleyball competition dubbed as “Beach Volley Belles” is likewise being finalized for college lady athletes of the province to coincide with the triathlon.
