Pangasinan Pistay Dayat Features Amazing Triathlon Event

Pangasinenses will once again prove their winning forms and passion for sports with the inclusion of Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE) as one of the highlights in this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat celebration.

Pistay Dayat 2008 Executive Chairman Raffy Baraan said that sports has always been welcomed as a recreation or a means of staying active and healthy and oftentimes, a key to a bright future.

Sports buffs will now have a chance to be a part of the triathlon or the Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik which will be held on April 30 at the different designated venues.

The first-ever competition is just one of the many eye-catching events lined-up by the provincial government.

Event Coordinator Modesto M. Operania said, “Triathlon is an endurance sports composed of three events such as swimming, cycling and marathon.”

Participants will first swim from Bonuan Gueset, at the mouth of Pantal river to Pugaro, Dagupan City then mount their bikes from Pugaro up to the back of PNP Target Range and finally run a marathon race from the back of PNP Target Range up to the back of Urduja House Beach Front.

Operania also disclosed that the holding of ATE aims to test the strength and speed of Pangasinan athletes as well as to promote and encourage sports enthusiasts to get involved in this kind of activity.

The Triathlon competition is open to all municipalities with at least one team representative composing of three participants whose age ranges from 20 to 50 years old, a resident of Pangasinan for at least one year and displays sportsmanship attitude.

Competitors are however, not allowed to take alcoholic drinks or strength-enhancing drugs or to accept outside assistance and aids during the race except from race officials and official aid stations provided. Violation of this rule will be a ground for disqualification.

Would-be participants are requested to submit their triathlon notarized applications and duplicate copy of their birth certificate. Registration, briefing and medical check-up are likewise scheduled at the Sison Auditorium day before the holding of Amazing Triathlon event set on the 30th.

A beach volleyball competition dubbed as “Beach Volley Belles” is likewise being finalized for college lady athletes of the province to coincide with the triathlon.

Prizes of P20,000, 15,000 and 10,000 respectively plus trophies are at stake for the winners.
